Ridiculously CUTE!

Miss Maggie also needed a library bag. One that can accomodate larger format books as well as the skinny chapter books. Maggie's mum chose some gorgeous bright turquoise and pink owl fabric, just delicious. I stopped off at a drapery store in Turramurra on my errands rounds on Friday and saw some rather sweet pompom trim. Perfect colour, daunting on how I would actually sew with it...

Anyhoo...

This is the library bag...

And we had loads of each lining and outer fabric left over as well as the trim so I made this rather ridiculously cute cushion! After all, it is nice to have something pretty to lie on while you are reading a book, right?!

Absolutely gorgeous and absolutely LOVED by mother AND daughter. (and my daughter too!!!)

Music Bag #5

Amelia's 2nd BFF started playing the violin a few weeks ago and her mum requested I make a music bag for her to stash her music bits and everything else she needs in. Miss Maggie is a whole head shorter than Amelia so length is a bit of an issue and I will have to adjust the straps I think for her as the shoulder strap is way long.

Miss Maggie's mum and I went to Spotlight last weekend and some fabrics were selected for a music bag and a library bag (more on that later...,)

Made slightly differently than the others (much neater but a whole lot more time consuming but a much better result). Did my head in trying to sew the lining and the outer together and it is still a bit of a 'thrown together' mess but for the purpose of the bag it will suffice.

Tah dah!

I used D rings for the shoulder straps and there are 2 pockets on the inside.

Happy Miss Maggie, Happy Maggie's Mum, happy me, relief all round!

More bags...

Amelia needed a bag to take to Girl Guides, just a little something to take a notebook and pencil, her supper milk and a bottle of water and eventually her hand book, when she gets it!

Based on the bags I did the other week, I sort of made this up as I went along. Pretty happy with how it turned out. There is a pocket front and back with the cream spotty fabric and it fits her shoulder quite nicely. The pocket fits an A5 notebook and I put a small pocket on the inside as well for those nights she needs to take money.

Then we decided that Amelia's BFF needed a music bag. She has just started Violin lessons and apparently the music bags I have made Amelia, Max and Alethea are quite the talk of the school. So much so I have an order for another one... for Amelia's 'other' BFF as well as a library bag for Miss M as well.

We went on an excursion to Spotlight and Miss M's mum was SO overwhelmed with the colours, patterns and choices she wished she'd just sent me in! I was steering her towards the $4 clearance baskets but no, Mrs A went straight for the top of the line quilting fabrics! You know the ones, the $16+ per metre ones...

Here is our haul... $198 later!

The back 5 Princess fabrics are for a friend in Qld who can't get any at her local Spotlight... the last one at the top is for some weird idea I have for a cheats pretty table runner.

The front row - the music material and the kimono dolls is for Miss M's music bag, the turquoise owls and the expensive satin (the only lining that wasn't on special!!!) is for a library bag also for Miss M and hte dragonfly and blue lining (that WAS on special!!!) is for the other girls music bag which ended up like....

And she is VERY VERY happy with it!

Next stop more bags... :-) yay!

Dinosaur amusement

My lovely neighbour and her recently turned 2 year old son went to NZ a few weeks ago, on their own. Master Felix is a bit of a live wire and Amy is about 5 months pregnant with a belly that is kinda getting in the way. I have travelled with AMelia a few times by myself and she is the best passenger you could ask for. She holds my hand, doesn't leave my side, sits in the seat, puts her belt on, reads the safety card, asks questions of the flight attendants, asks more questions then falls asleep. She's a great travel passenger. I can only imagine Felix won't be as placid as she is!

He has recently discovered dinosaurs and with that in mind I made him this...

A dinosaur roll! I posted this on a local crafters page and someome wants to buy one from me! It took me a week of hunting in about 5 fabric shops to find the dinosaur fabric and even then it wasn't quite what I had wanted.

It was a hit with Master Felix though! The highlight of his holiday :-)

Little bit of sew-jo

This year has started with a bang, a big one. The business has been busy with a facelift on the websites, all of a sudden 'wooshka'! Sales like I haven't know in January = awesome, please, long may it continue!!

Then we had a few visitors - my aunt from London came and stayed for a week and while she was here my Mum decided it would be a good idea to catch up with her sister in law so we had a full house for a few days! It was loads of fun, the weather on the last day of Barbara's stay dampened our plans as it was rubbish and a week of rain after she left meant a lot of changes to plans. Saturday, mum left on Sunday, I decided to spend an hour or 2 sewing...

Februarys challenge in the sewalution on Facebook was to make a bag for yourself. Now, sewing for myself is somewhat of a novelty but I searched and found this pattern... which I sort of liked. Mum also liked it so we hit Spotlight on one day during her holiday and I cut the bags out before we went out Saturday morning and sewed them up when we got home in the afternoon. I am pretty happy with how they turned out!
